ABOUT JESSA

THOUGHTS

from an Everyday Everygirl

‘Adventurous’ isn’t the first word that comes to mind when searching for autobiographical adjectives, but a bit of self-reflection whispers you’re more adventurous than you think.

I left home at 17, riding the annual wave of wide-eyed and wondering college entrants with little more than a hint at a future direction. By 20, I was newly married in Nashville. At 22, I released my first full-length album and my husband Jordan and I became full-time touring musicians.

With four kids, 7+ years of homeschooling, multiple businesses, and so many moves the sight of a Uhaul still makes me shudder, it’s been a steady stream of adventure through almost two decades.

I luxuriate in seasons of comfort and consistency, but always, in its right time, the little voice begins to speak what’s next?

I’ve learned that saying yes is an open door. I’ve come to appreciate that the uncomfortable, stretched feeling of trying something new won’t tear me in half—it will expand the borders of what’s possible. I’ve realized that a pivot is as good as a new beginning, but you can carry pieces of the past right along with you.

I chose Everyday Everygirl when organizing my business because at the tail end of 30-something, I know the power of being as ordinary as the next girl, and doing it anyway. I hope you’ll join me in romanticizing the everyday, loving the life you’re living, and taking the occasional leap now and then.

xx, jessa

THERE’S A LITTLE SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW

01 Family

I was 19 when I married Jordan, and yes, people definitely told us to our faces we were crazy and wouldn’t make it. 17+ years and counting, we have four amazing kids with an 11 year span between the oldest and youngest. I am busy. I am tired. I wouldn’t change a thing!!

02 Music

One of our best adventures was saying “why the heck not!?” to becoming full-time touring musicians. With no kids, youth on our side, and plenty of time to finish college, we dropped out and started touring Jordan’s EP and my 10-song album. It was the pre-iPhone era, and it was the opposite of glamorous. Picture one vehicle crammed with gear, one husband driving, and one very directionally-challenged wife navigating without the benefit of GPS. We have the literal best stories, and maybe someday I’ll actually write some of them down, so we can all relive the chaos together.

Three full-length solo albums, a record deal, a kickstarter campaign, a whole bunch of pregnancy and babies, and more miles than we can count. In February 2020, we released our first album as a duo, Glorious, by Jordan and Jessa. The timing was terrible, the music is not.

03 Hobbies

These days, hobbies can feel like a castle in the sky, floating just out of reach somewhere between ballet lessons and baseball games (none of which are mine). But when my oldest was still quite young, I realized I couldn’t remember the last actual book I’d read. I missed it, and also I didn’t want my brain cells crumbling to dust, so I put it back on the priority list. Audio books, family read alouds, re-reading my fave classics, and embracing the digital ease of a Kindle so I can easily tuck my current library borrow in my bag have all been part of a winning strategy.

NEW & EXCITING

House of Colour East Nashville is celebrating one year of amazing clients, and moving full steam ahead into year two! I fell in love with the HoC process during my own Color and Style Analysis appointments, and I’m thrilled to bring the joy and ease of knowing your best colors and style to Middle Tennessee.
